Realtime Dashboard

An operations dashboard for a logistics team, built to stay readable when several hundred values change every second. The hard part was not the data; it was deciding what a person should be allowed to notice.

The first version repainted on every message and was unusable within a minute. The rewrite started from the opposite question: what is the smallest number of things that should move?

Built the rendering layer, the threshold system and the alert rules. Ran the interface past the people on shift every week rather than at the end.

Updates arrive over a socket and are batched into a single animation frame. A value only animates when it crosses a threshold the operator set, so movement on the screen always means something.

The dashboard now runs all day on the wall of the operations room. Replace with the outcome of your own project.
